Hello and welcome to the ISC-Audubon website.
My name is Eric Dodson, and I serve as Executive Director for ISC-Audubon. Over the past many years I have worked as a consultant, a sustainability advisor, and even as a computer technician. I've worked as Manager of Outreach and Education for an environmental consulting firm based out of North Carolina, and have worked closely with Audubon International Signature and Cooperative Sanctuary members seeking environmental certifications.
My father, Ron Dodson, who in 1987 re-started the Audubon Society of New York State, Inc., (the second oldest Audubon Society in the United States) which is now known as Audubon Intenrational. He also created the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Programs(including programs for schools, farms, backyards, corporate properties, golf courses and municipalities) and the Audubon Signature Sanctuary Program designed for properties in the planning and design stages of development.
Ron was Regional Vice President of the National Audubon Society, Executive Director of the Western Kentucky Environmental Planning Agency, Vice President of Environment Management for Anaconda Aluminum Company and a biology and science teacher at the high school and college levels. He was also Regional Director of the Alaska Coalition during the Carter Administration, working in Washington, D.C. and Alaska on Native Claims and Federal Parks and Refuge establishment. Ron now serves as Chairman of the Board for the International Sustainability Council, (ISC).
As the saying goes, the nut doesn't far from the tree. Ron and I share the same passion for nature, the outdoors, and the virtues associated with good old-fashion common sense, respect and honesty. This passion has developed into a lifelong commitment of assisting others through sustainability coaching. Some of my earliest memories are of my father and I taking bird walks, or participating in a local Audubon Society Chapter meeting, so it is no surprise that, I was employed by Audubon International where I worked for over twenty years in one capacity or another, and helped my father to build the organization from the ground up during its early years. For eleven years I also served as the Director of Management Information Systems (MIS), and was responsible for bringing and incorporating technology in all its forms into the organization.
Ron and I launched the Sustainable Communities Campaign in 2004, and developed a number of partnerships with organizations like EcoLogical Home Ideas Magazine and Golf Course Home, and regularly wrote articles for the Treasuring Home Journal, the Golf Course Superintendents Association and other high-profile media outlets.
In 2005 I moved from upstate NY and headed to Tampa Bay, Florida. Immediately upon moving to Florida I completed all three sections required to become a Florida Master Naturalist offered by the University of Florida, and served on the Board of Directors for the Florida Green Building Coalition.
In my view, many certification programs or programs that call themselves "sustainable" focus simply on one aspect of sustainability (the environment). And so, to fill what I believed to be a void in many sustainability programs we created ISC-Audubon in 2007.Through ISC-Audubon we have facilitated sustainable living and lifestyles by by working to balance the environment, the economic, and the social attributes required to be truly sustainable.
Our goal is to assist businesses and individuals in sustainable solutions that are reliable, practical and efficient by providing education, advisory services, programming, and certifications based on the International Sustainability Council’s Principles of Sustainability. By participating in an ISC-Audubon Program you can show that you too are committed to these same goals, and dedicated to advancing the understanding between ecological, societal and economic systems for the mutual benefit of people and the environment.
For those that choose to participate in an ISC-Audubon Program, we wish to thank you for your participation, and for leading the way to build a more sustainable world!
R. Eric Dodson
